Tips and Things to Consider When Looking For a Solicitor

By: Nick Schofield

Ask for Recommendations

Legal firms provide assistance to a wide variety of issues regarding businesses and other important transactions. But despite being considered as one of the best white-collared professions, there are still lots of frauds in the law industry so people must be careful when it comes to finding genuine solicitors. In looking for the best lawyer, it is important to ask for recommendations from people you know before looking for them. Recommendations coming from friends or members of the family are considered viable reference. On the other hand agencies may not provide you good reference for solicitors because some of them are biased when it comes to choosing lawyers.

Research

After finding the solicitors you can compare their prices for the services they offer and the price they can present to you can be the best measuring tools of the quality of services they can provide. Sometimes the best solicitors can even offer you the lowest bid but even though it is tempting to decide who to hire just by considering the fees it can, however, present you some risk because you still never know how their services will bring you the justice you need. Moreover, making a research regarding the specializations of the potential solicitors is needed in order to properly find how they fared with their former clients.

Ask thoroughly

Once the list of solicitors is presented the next step is to make sure all of them are indeed qualified. One qualification that should be checked is their ‘practicing certificates’. This certificate is proof that they are legally licensed by the Solicitors Regulation Authority. Other documents required are their insurance papers and their records as lawyers which can serve as protection for the clients in case something goes wrong with the transactions. Asking for quotes from the prospective solicitors is also a good idea. After the list is brought down to few, the client should meet each of them to be able for him to feel which indeed is suitable for the case. Mostly, solicitors give free initial speech to convince their clients.

There are some solicitors, however, who ask for hourly fees but if you cannot afford this offer present him some options like paying him accordingly after the case has been closed or paying him in fixed price. Consider also some factors like the location of the office of the solicitors and his schedule. You would not like the idea of hiring a solicitor and wanted him immediately but cannot give you the assistance because he lives on other state or immersed with other case. Most of the time the relationship between the client and his solicitor become strained because of these factors so in accordance with your necessity, you as a client should always consider hiring a person that you could rely on and easily available. So think about choosing which solicitor can really live up to your expectations. Remember that you are the one giving him the job and there is no favor here involved. If ever you would notice that your solicitor cannot handle your case accordingly you can contact the next possible best solicitor from your list and again explain the situation and give him the condition.
