As I mentioned before, creating and registering a domain name will be the essential first step. The best strategy for long term success will be to build a brand and a reputation. Without these, trying to sell a product in a "sea" of other similar ones will be that much more difficult. Your distinctiveness and personal touch will be the deciding factor. Never be afraid to add some personality and even wit to your writings and web pages. It is your personality and candor that will draw and keep that loyal list of customers. Base all your marketing efforts around that domain, all of your articles, forum posts, and other "sig" links. "Yourdomaindotcom" will be far easier to remember than "domaindotblogspotdotcom", or wherever else you choose to host your blog. Another critical reason to utilize a personal domain is the fact that as a new marketer, you're bound to make mistakes. A simple mistake such as installing a fancy new widget or banner that may violate the hosts terms of service. One day you log on only to find that your blog has been deleted because of this. A nightmare to be sure! Though unwittingly or maybe through no fault of your own, the fact remains that your "subdomain" has ceased to exist. Maybe after many months of work and dozens, maybe hundreds of articles and posts already published, time spent building traffic, and hundreds or maybe even thousands of bookmarks that are now useless. This on top of all the "organic" search results achieved that are now useless as well! Now with a custom or personal domain, it will be a simple matter of redirecting to another site or blog, this can usually be accomplished in a hour or two with minimal damage. Blogger allows for such custom domains, but first you will have to log in to the registrar and forward the domain to "ghs.google.com" (Google hosting service). this process will take about an hour or two depending on the registrar. Then log in to blogger settings, then "publishing". Choose "use custom domain", you will even have the option of purchasing a domain through Google as well. Once finished click on advanced settings and enter your domain in the field, be sure to check the redirect box underneath as well. Give it a few minutes to an hour, then type your domain into the address bar to test. Be sure to type in the full "www" domain AND do so without the "www". Be certain both "versions" redirect to your blog then your finished. In closing I would like to add that many of my writings are for the newbie marketer and drawn from personal experience. My attempt is to publish as many solutions as possible in one place so as to educate and enlighten as many as possible. I hope someone finds the information contained here in, useful and adequate. Thanks for reading! Best of success!
